The natural history trip with the Oceanic Society ventured 30 miles offshore from San Francisco. In the course of 3 1/2 hours, Sherman reported the following sightings:
Six orcas, two humpback whales, one gray whale, 500 Northern right whale dolphins, 100 Risso's dolphins, 50 Pacific White-sided dolphins, 50 harbor porpoises, along with California sea lions and Northern fur seal and many birds sightings: 15 albatross, a rare Xantus' murrelet, along with murres, guillemots, fulmars, shearwaters, puffins, oystercatchers, grebes, gulls, terns, auklets, cormorants and pelicans.
